About Robyn

Eight year old Robyn Watterson was diagnosed with Hurlers disease, a rare metabolic condition for which there is no cure, when she was just 18 months old.

Robyn is the inspiration behind a new centre to provide support to families with terminally ill children .

Robyn was the figure head of a campaign by The Daily Record to start the planning for the hospice at Balloch, her picture captured the hearts of the entire nation.

The House That Robyn Built

Robyn’s story was featured in a recent documentary on ITV called "The House that Robyn Built". This told the story of how the hospice came about, and of her debilitating illness.

"We know that one day Robyn will no longer be with us, and we have realised recently that this will happen sooner rather than later. It would be nice for Robyn to be cared for by and next to people that care about her, instead of in a hospital"

-Sylvia Watterson, Robyn’s Mum

This programme told of some of the other children that would benefit from this hospice as well. These are mainly children who will not survive into adulthood due to rare and debilitating illnesses that they were born with.

"When Robyn was born I thought as a parent for the first time you always think a child is going to bring peace and harmony to the world. When I found out her life was going to be so short I was absolutely devastated.

We obviously started using Rachel House and they sort of spurred me on and I realised other people were living short lives and still had a purpose and I think Robyn has proved her purpose today.

"We're overwhelmed, overwhelmed, thank you Scotland."

-Gilbert Watterson, Robyn’s father

A donation to us would help Robyn and hundreds of children like her be cared for and looked after, particularly in the final days of their lives.

Although a lot has been done through sponsored events for this charity, more is still needed in terms of funding. The money can be used to provide these children with a life of comfort as their short lives come to an end.
